Great Minds Think Alike!

Cooked up by Lori on Jan 15, 2008

I am a subscriber of Deigned by Lara so this morning when I went to open my reader, I was surprised to see this image……..

This is her latest release……hmmmmmmm, does it look familiar?  I’m definitely no designer so this one is far better than mine.

EDITED:  Lara has responded about the similiar looking theme…she has been very nice and is working with me so this could be MY header!  Whether or not she knows it,  I have always promoted her site because I think she does have some wonderful themes/templates.  I highly recommend those of you on blogger to go check out her out and consider one of her designs for yourself…JUST NOT THIS ONE! LOL!!

  1. Have you contacted her to let her know that it looks very similar to yours?

  3. I have to say though, and I’m not trying to be rude.. that image is available to anyone who wishes to pay for it, through iStock, so chances of someone else having it is very high, especially since it has been downloaded 80 times. I see that the background was already in the image, so that was not copied from you. The layout of the blog is standard with WP with headers at the top, so that was not copied. It is a cooking image, so it would naturally fit a cooking blog. So really she has all rights to do with the image that she wants, providing she paid for the rights to the image. As for the colors, it appears that they were more than likely pulled from the colors in the header.

And like I said, I’m not trying to be rude, just pointing out a few things. :)

  4. I paid for and downloadedthe image as well from iStock so I know where it came from. My beef with her is that she’s selling it as original for all that money when really it won’t be 100% original because it looks like mine sooo much. I’ve seen the same girl on a few other blogs but none of them look like mine.
And I don’t take your comment as being rude;) I love discussion. I would just hate for someone else to have the same looking blog I guess.

  5. I would’t pay $75 to $100 for something that she didn’t draw HERSELF. I see tons of designer sites that offer these for $30 to $50.

That’s a side note completely, lol .. And I’m allowed to be snotty because it’s ME and not Lori speaking.

I think it does look similar to yours, but I have to agree with Gina that it’s fair that she made one like it. BUT - referring to my above comment, charging upwards of $100 for that design because A) It’s practically a ready made header off iStock (which is NOT expensive, I buy from them all the time) and B) It looks just like another blog is unfair.

Sorry Lara, from one DESIGNER to another DESIGNER that ain’t kosher!

  6. Hello, :)

LOL…I just heard about this and am very sorry you are upset!

I designed that site originally for http://flour-arrangements.blogspot.com However, she wanted to go into a completely different direction as you can see by the looks of her blog!

As far as “original,” I never said the image or anything was. I said it will only be sold once. The header took me a lot of time to add all the images to the counter space and such….THAT is why I am charging so much…LOL…time spent is how I charge.

I am not a copy cat and am sorry you feel that way. I do not even know you or your site. I simply found an image I liked on istock, bought it, and made the design.

When Sophia told me it was not her taste, I certainly was not going to take all the work I put into it and say, bye…LOL…I thought about using it for a redesign of my site http://therecipefinder.com, but then thought I would rather do a real food and image look.

    Anyway, there you go.

    God Bless,
    Lara :)

  7. Hi Lara…Sorry it’s gotten a bit on the “ugly” side. I realize that you do have every right and I should have done a custom logo/theme from the start. I just hate to see a site that looks like mine running around out there, ya know?

  16. Sorry, but I don’t see it. Other than the one image they’re very different designs as blog templates go. The layouts and fonts are all different. The only thing the same is that you both built off the same image.

Frankly, I think yours is much better, carrying the colors throughout the page, etc.
