Eat Shrink & Be Merry Cookbook – 5 Stars!

This has to be the most fun cookbook I’ve ever read!  Not only that, the recipes in Eat, Shrink, and be Merry are wonderful.  What I love the most is the simplicity of them.  I mean, the ingredients are “normal”.  Not your hard-to-find type of ingredients.  They are ones that you can find in a small town grocery store like mine!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with this book, maybe you’ve heard of Looneyspoons.  Unfortunately, that book is no longer in print but it’s the same ladies, who happen to be sisters.  Their story alone is amazing and I was inspired to say the least at how their whole project came about.  It’s totally worth the read and I encourage you to check it out.  I don’t get a lot of time to read but it was so real, so unbelievable, and it really tells you about who they are and what makes their cookbooks unique and special.  And not that this matters so much but I LOVE the size and colors of this book.  Very refreshing!

This cookbook rawks because it’s low fat eating and not your typical 2-ingredient no-fat-crappy ingredients recipe either.  It has good, real ingredients and the meals sound like eatable meals.  I cannot stress that enough!!! NORMAL, GOOD and HEALTHY recipes! Something that you need to remember when eating healthy or dieting, is that portion size is everything!!!!  You MUST watch your portions because it does no good to eat a giant plate of healthy food.   At the end of each recipe, you’ll find the ‘per serving’ information and how many the recipe actually serves which can be very beneficial if you are trying to lose weight.

The recipe titles crack me up.  To give you a few examples:

  • Lord of the Wings
  • Dunk `n` GoNuts!
  • Kentucky Freud Chicken
  • These Beets Were Made for Walkin’
  • Pea Diddy

See what I mean?  They’re hilarious and the little cartoon drawings fit the titles and make it even more fun.  These and the little stories, song remakes, and tips that go with the each recipe make it an absolute hoot!

Don’t get me wrong either, just because the cookbook is fun and entertaining, doesn’t mean the nutritional value & information is not there.  For instance, did you that your fingernails grow faster on the hand you favor and that your nails can tell you if you have a vitamin deficiency??  Or do you know the real lowdown on Sweet-n-low?  I bet you think you do but you don’t!  Just more great reasons to read the book.

This is instantly one of my favorite cookbooks and you can bet that I’ll be creating these healthy dishes in my own kitchen and making sure that mom, who is a cookbook junkie, will be getting a copy of the book too.  After all, she and her man want more healthy meals added to their daily eating rituals!

If you wanna buy this book, they’re having a special 2 for 1!!!! That means TWO COOKBOOKS FOR THE SAME PRICE AS ONE!!! Keep one and give one away.  You know, Christmas is coming up folks!

Thanks for having this great contest out of your own pocket!

  18. I work an evening shift and don’t get home till almost 1 a.m. so I don’t want to cook when I get home. My lunch break is at 8:30 and is only 30 minutes so I either bring something I can heat in the microwave or I hit the fast food places. I’ve gained about 25 pounds (and I was already about 20 pounds too heavy) so I’m obviously not eating well. I keep telling myself that I’ll do better but it just doesn’t happen.
I need nutritious healthy meals I can prepare at home to take to work.

  19. My eating habits go in cycles. I eat marginally well most of the time and then every once in a while I cheat when my nose or eyes can’t resist something that looks delicious…. then i’m guilted into trying to eat really healthy for a few days after that…. lather, rinse, repeat!

  20. I try to eat healthy, but my Cheeto-addicted hubby leads me astray sometimes. On the other hand, when we eat out, I get double helpings of veggies, because he’ll sneak his onto my plate (!!!!!)

  21. I would like to think that I’m a healthy eater. I don’t go out to eat much and I only drink milk and water (absolutely NO pop). But I do have a major weakness for chocolate and ice cream. Woe is me!

  22. I try to eat healthy most of the time but I love to bake and then I sometimes indulge in goodies.

  23. I try to eat healthy, but I swear my body craves fast food. And I have two skinny, little boys to love snacks, so my house is full of them…so much temptation.

  24. I try and eat healthy as much as I can, but it doesn’t always work :)

I have MODY-2 (a form of diabetes) and have no choice but to eat as much of the healthy of the stuff as I can.

  25. I try to eat healthy but every once in a while I just want some junk food

  26. Sometimes I eat healthy and other times it seems like all I eat is junk food.

  27. Fast convenient jusk

  28. Oops! I meant junk

  29. I try to update my eating habits constantly. I like to add little things all the time as it makes it easier to make small changes instead of drastic ones. I buy the Birdseye Steamfresh veggies and even if we’re having junk for dinner like chicken patties and mac ‘n cheese, I still add some fresh steamed veggies. I always keep fruit in the house to snack on and very rarely does it get thrown out. Breakfast is almost always whole grain cereal or oatmeal or eggs with whole wheat toast. My biggest downfall is sugar. I have to have a cookie or cake or pie or something yummy and sweet in the afternoon. That and Sunday night pizza! I know I will never have perfect eating habits, but I will always try to improve what I’m currently doing, find healthy and interesting recipes and find some time to exercise.

  30. 98% of the time I eat healthy. Desserts once a week or twice are my weakness.

  31. I eat healthy… sometimes. I do try to eat healthier, but my tastebuds scream “Paula Deen!!!” Maybe “Eat, Shrink, and be Merry” would help me get off of this crazy eating roller coaster. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  32. I try to eat healthy most of the time, but every now and then I crave chocolate. This looks like a nice cookbook and I do cook. Thanks for the nice giveaway!

  33. To keep going I ate more and more. One I retired I laid off the food and I slimmed down.

  34. I try to eat healthy, but I don’t always. This book would help with some easy, healthy recipes.

  35. I eat healthy most of the time, but I also just eat too much!

  36. I am pretty much a roller coaster, equal opportunity eater! I try so hard to eat healthy, but I’m also an emotional eater, so stress can take me right off of my healthy eating quickly. I really do try though!

  37. I eat healthy only occasionally.

  38. I have taken quite a few nutrition courses through my education and therefore I am very concious of what I eat and choose to buy. I have their other cookbooks but have yet to buy this one. This one looks even better than their other ones. I love to watch their show and see them recreate healthier versions of much loved meals. Thanks for the chance. I’d love to win this book!

  39. This sounds like a great cookbook! I try to eat healthy and make my family homecooked meals. Maybe If I win this it will help me do this.
