Hello, I cannot believe that a company that i work for would hurt someone like they did. I’m so ashamed of that restaurant. I work for Steak n Shake in Florida, and I’m an Auditor and Trainer. I have 11 restaurants that i audit, and have shared this horrible experience with all of them. they are in shock.I agree that The ceo needs to reply. I don’t know what, if any response that steak n shake has done about this, but one thing has come from it, is that 11 steak n shake restaurants will never treat anyone like this. I will apologize on behalf of my company, and make no excuses. I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure that the person who is responsible and restaurant deals with this. One of my Restaurants actually has a group of deaf guests that comes as a group often. We have a special area that they love. We make sure its saved and special reservations. We love them. I’m again sorry for what happened.

I really feel for this woman. Would it be expected that there would not be a deaf sign interpretor at the window? Or that there would? I don’t get it. How is one supposed to communicate.
Obviously, there must be something I am not “seeing” or “hearing” here.

I blogged about it too in my weekly gratitude post. My gratitude went to Karen Putz for having the courage to stand up and be counted in the face of withering criticism and pressure. Her story both inspired and pressed some deeply hidden buttons that I didn’t know existed!

I agree that the woman was not treated properly but wouldn’t it be more appropriate to go to the source (the actual employee who denied her service and having that person apologize) before demanding an apology from the CEO of the company??? Is it possible that the store is a franchise operation?? The local mgt should certainly be involved with an appropriate resolution – my guess is the CEO of Steak and Shake probably doesn’t even know this happened….
