Easy Apple Turnovers with Canned Biscuits

Just bringing you easy and affordable recipes these days huh!  To make these Apple Turnovers from scratch would be divine but since many of us don’t have the time, I found a shortcut from the coolest cookbook ever, 101 Things to Do with Canned Biscuits!  These only take a few minutes to prepare and about the same amount of time to cook.

I love cookbooks like this and if you’re into this stuff, check out the whole line of 101 things cookbooks for fun and easy recipes.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 can (16.3oz) biscuits
  • 1 can apple pie filling
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons sugar

DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 400′.  Flatten each biscuit into a 6″ round.  Place 2 heaping tablespoons of pie filling on each biscuit.  Moisten edges of dough with water.  Fold over and press edges firmly with a fork to seal.  Place on a lightly greased baking sheet.

Mix cinnamon and sugar and then sprinkly over top of biscuits.  USE IT ALL.  It might seem like a lot but it’s really not.  Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.  YUMMY!

  15. Debbie says:

I grew up on these, all flavors of pie filling, only we did fry them. We called them fried pies and back before “fried” was so bad for you, we had many a fund raiser at our church selling “fried pies”. We never had a bad sell day when these were on the menu. They are great for slumber parties too. Everyone has a great time.

  16. made these with my stepdaughters over the weekend and they had so much fun! Plus the pies were very delicious! There is such a variety with what you can put inside–we were thinking maybe using chocolate next time.

  17. Love those simple receipts. Being a guy I just want it to be easy to make it and good to eat

    Try this one folks!
    1 pound ground beef
    1/2 pound ground pork
    1 small onion diced
    4 cloves crushed garlic
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon black pepper
    1/4 teaspoon cayenne
    6 green onions chopped
    tablespoon dried parsley
    1/8 teaspoon celery salt
    1/4 cup flour
    water
    canned biscuits
cooking oil (i prefer peanut oil)

Brown the ground beef, pork, garlic and onions, drain the fat, add all of the seasonings, green onions, and parsley reduce to simmer stir every couple of minutes, add about 1/4 cup of water and bring the heat back up to medium high, stir in the flour and let it get thick!
set the mixture aside and let cool
bring you cooking oil up to 350 or 375
roll each biscuit into a 4-5 inch circles, add a good heaping tablespoon of the meat in the center, wet the edges with some water or egg wash and fold over, and try to push some of the air out, seal the edges with a fork, and deep fry until golden brown
These are wonderful as they are, but i also like to take a container of sour cream and add some dill to it with a pureed cucumber and serve as a sauce!
    YUMMY!!!!
These are reminiscent of the old cajun meat pies i loved to eat in southern louisiana.
