This has to be the most fun cookbook I’ve ever read! Not only that, the recipes in Eat, Shrink, and be Merry are wonderful. What I love the most is the simplicity of them. I mean, the ingredients are “normal”. Not your hard-to-find type of ingredients. They are ones that you can find in a small town grocery store like mine!
For those of you who aren’t familiar with this book, maybe you’ve heard of Looneyspoons. Unfortunately, that book is no longer in print but it’s the same ladies, who happen to be sisters. Their story alone is amazing and I was inspired to say the least at how their whole project came about. It’s totally worth the read and I encourage you to check it out. I don’t get a lot of time to read but it was so real, so unbelievable, and it really tells you about who they are and what makes their cookbooks unique and special. And not that this matters so much but I LOVE the size and colors of this book. Very refreshing!
This cookbook rawks because it’s low fat eating and not your typical 2-ingredient no-fat-crappy ingredients recipe either. It has good, real ingredients and the meals sound like eatable meals. I cannot stress that enough!!! NORMAL, GOOD and HEALTHY recipes! Something that you need to remember when eating healthy or dieting, is that portion size is everything!!!! You MUST watch your portions because it does no good to eat a giant plate of healthy food. At the end of each recipe, you’ll find the ‘per serving’ information and how many the recipe actually serves which can be very beneficial if you are trying to lose weight.
The recipe titles crack me up. To give you a few examples:
- Lord of the Wings
- Dunk `n` GoNuts!
- Kentucky Freud Chicken
- These Beets Were Made for Walkin’
- Pea Diddy
See what I mean? They’re hilarious and the little cartoon drawings fit the titles and make it even more fun. These and the little stories, song remakes, and tips that go with the each recipe make it an absolute hoot!
Don’t get me wrong either, just because the cookbook is fun and entertaining, doesn’t mean the nutritional value & information is not there. For instance, did you that your fingernails grow faster on the hand you favor and that your nails can tell you if you have a vitamin deficiency?? Or do you know the real lowdown on Sweet-n-low? I bet you think you do but you don’t! Just more great reasons to read the book.
This is instantly one of my favorite cookbooks and you can bet that I’ll be creating these healthy dishes in my own kitchen and making sure that mom, who is a cookbook junkie, will be getting a copy of the book too. After all, she and her man want more healthy meals added to their daily eating rituals!
If you wanna buy this book, they’re having a special 2 for 1!!!! That means TWO COOKBOOKS FOR THE SAME PRICE AS ONE!!! Keep one and give one away. You know, Christmas is coming up folks!

I wish I could say I eat healthy, but that would be a lie…I DO love my sweets! oops…I mean, sweetie..yeah, that’s it. I love to cook though and to read through cookbooks.
Thanks for the opportunity to win this one..looks like a hoot!
I eat fairly healthy, but I snack not so healthy. A happy mix. I do all cooking and baking from scratch and this cookbook sounds great! See, after you shrink, surely merry follows. But first, you have to eat right. Thanks for a great giveaway.
I eat healthy most of the time and I’m almost completely vegetarian. Pizza is my weakness so I just choose a lower fat crust variety, go very light on the cheese and just have pineapple or something. It’s still a big treat to me that way. As long as pizza is in my diet once a week or so, I do fine.
I eat healthy most times, but I fall off the wagon often!
I’m trying to kick the sugar habit. So many things have sugar in them.
Usually, we eat pretty healthy–lots of veggies from the garden or canned fromthe garden; lean meats and fish, plenty of chicken. I try to limit fried foods but DH loves it. We do have occasional pig outs, like potato chips or store bought cookies…..

My least favorite subject!! Eating healthy! Acutally, I have to, I’m diabetic and I do try but every now and then a bag of Cheetos gets me! Both of these books sound great – if I don’t win I will try to check them out and thanks for the heads up! Nan

I try to eat healthy most of the time, but have an endulgence every few days.
I try to eat healthy most of the time but I do give in to occasional lapses of junk food.
I’m trying very hard to eat healthier, but when ice cream calls my name, I’m a goner!!
I eat out too much. I don’t like to cook. I love cheese, chips and any desserts.
Lori, this cookbook sounds amazing! Real low fat food recipes, without the ‘cardboard’ tasting stuff? Never knew it was possible! Lately, (a little over a month now) I’ve done my best to get back to the healthy diet that allowed me to lose over 50 lbs two years ago. I’ve gained back a little, but refuse to let my weight get out of control again! So, I eat healthy most of the time, but there are days that I do cheat.
I’m sure this cookbook would make staying healthy easier!

Just stumbled your post, Lori! Even if someone else wins this, it’s still a good thing – I want all my friends to be healthy, too!

i eat healthy some of the time, i am tempted by delicious fattening food and it can be very hard
My eating habits are really good during the day for the most part, but I am terrible when I get home at night – I think it’s just the easy access to food.
I do fine on some days and others are just crazy. When there is someone else in the house who loves junk food and eats it whenever, it is very hard to stay focused.

I generally eat well, but if I get down or depressed, I dig into ice cream. I hate diets that want you to stick to eating carrot sticks all the time… this book would be helpful!
I try to eat healthy…but I’m a total stress eater.
Help…willpower needed.
