I love snow icecream. I grew up making it. But let it snow a few inches, and skim off the top layers, getting 'clean snow'. (The first few inches of snow cleans the air, then you can eat the reat of the snow after the first few inches. And never eat yellow snow!) Whatever recipe you use, if you put the mixed (finished) ice cream in the freezer for 1/2 hour, it will set up, and be more like ice cream.
You can make several different flavors:
Add one of the following to first part of recipe:
(Taste while adding to get the strength of flavoring you desire)
Nestle's Quick, Chocolate or Strawberry, to taste
fresh fruit, any fruit, chopped or mashed, and some sugar, to taste: add any fruit of your choice, but add sugar sparingly till you get your desired sweetness,(Adding fresh fruit makes your ice cream healthy, so don't over-sweeten it with the sugar).
To make it the most consistency of ice cream, mix it, freeze it for 30 min., Repeat process 2-3 times, till desired consistency is achieved. (Snow ice cream melts faster than regular ice cream.)
ENJOY!

We used to do this on the ranch near Sweetwater using a Red Gandy's Ice Cream Bucket. My father, Butch, would walk outside with the red bucket the few times it snowed when we were growing up and you could feel the excitement!
Kinda makes me tear up right now, missing my family! who knew! Thanks Lori!

Now darlin', if you're gonna make it you might as well go all the way and make it right! I reckon if all you've got is 2 qts of snow this will do, but I start off by filling up that biggest cake cover Tupperware makes, the one without the rigid base. Go ahead and heap it up with snow. Then fill up the cover to a regular cake cover. That's bound to be several gallons of snow. In a mixing bowl combine 5 eggs, a can of Eagle Brand, a can of evaporated milk and some vanilla flavoring. After it is well blended pour it slowly into the larger container of snow, blending with the mixer on low. As it condenses you can add the rest of the snow. Add more canned milk as needed to get the desired consistency. As long as the eggs are fresh you shouldn't have any problems. I've been making it this way for over 35 years and I guarantee it will taste like homemade ice cream in an old crank freezer. Enjoy!

One of my favorite memories from childhood is Mom making us snow ice cream. I'm sure she used eggs with the milk and sugar and vanilla. It was so rich and creamy. We had tons of snow when I was a kid and it was a treat we all loved.
BTW~ I got the box of cookbooks today. Thank you very much!

In the old, pre-salmonella-scare days, we used to mix an egg into it too, but you certainly shouldn't do that now! It made it stick together better and gave it a little color so it looked more like vanilla ice cream.
